Lallemand Plant Care

Microbial by Nature

The Lallemand group has naturally turned to plant care since 2006

@lallemand

Since the beginning of the 20th Century the Lallemand group has been an expert in yeast and bacteria production.

In 2006 the company decided to put its knowledge and technological assets in microbiology and fermentation for the agricultural world.

And so was born the Lallemand Plant Care business unit, which has since grown significantly through the acquisition of companies specialising in plant bio protection and bio fertilisation.

Lallemand Plant Care has become a market leader – developing and marketing the best microorganism strains.

A plant is an ecosystem in which microorganisms play a key role

They can be found both in the rhizosphere (the area close to the roots) and in the phyllosphere (the aerial parts, located above ground level) and some even colonize the plant interior. Although invisible to the naked eye, microorganisms have been linked to plants since the dawn of time and some have agronomic properties that allow their host plant to develop better.

Current technologies allow us to study these mechanisms, select microorganisms of agronomic interest, duly analyze, produce and formulate them to inoculate crops.

Reproducing natural symbioses for efficient and sustainable agriculture

Inoculating a crop means artificially recreating a natural mechanism that would have been created over a very long period of time – the time not available in agriculture. Supporting its seedlings or plants with microbial partners selected for their properties is relevant, effective and environmentally friendly.

Our microorganism products improve plant productivity and vitality without releasing undesirable pesticide residues into the environment. We classify them into three categories.

Plant protection or biocontrol

Our microbial origin plant protection products use methods existing in nature for the prevention of plant diseases and pests. Pathogens are controlled by their natural enemies – a beneficial microorganism (bacteria or fungi).

Biostimulation

Biostimulation is another method used to improve plant resistance to stress, but also to stimulate natural mechanisms to enhance crop yield and quality.

Biofertilization

Biofertilisation optimizes soil resources by making nutrients available to the plant by, for example, fixing atmospheric nitrogen or solubilizing phosphorus in the soil. But also, by associating mycorrhizal fungi to the roots, the plant’s ability to explore the soil for water and nutrients is increased tenfold.

Lallemand Plant Care is committed to research
and delivering effective solutions.
Progress is part of our culture

Lallemand invests thousands of hours in laboratory and field research with more than 400 scientists worldwide. Our commitment is to innovate and deliver agile solutions to growers as the industry shifts.

In addition to its own research laboratories, the Lallemand Group has established partnerships with major universities and research centres around the world. The aim is to study plant-microbe interactions and find the most effective natural solutions.

When you purchase a Lallemand product you are buying much more than high performance biologicals, you are receiving science backed products. Our global team, day after day, is dedicated to solving grower challenges and improving yield and crop quality.
